Hints: Stains

Oh no! You just caused a stain on your new outfit! The first instinct is to try to remove it by blotting, applying water to it, or trying one of the assorted stain treatment products.

Stop!

Hakuyosha suggests you:
• Protect other parts of the garment from the stain.
• Lift off any solids. Blot the stain with a clean white towel or napkin. Do not rub the stain. Do not treat with a stain remover or water!)
• Take the stained item to a professional dry cleaner right away.
• Tell the cleaner where the stain is, what caused it, and what you did, if anything, to control the stain.

Coming to us significantly increases your chance of saving the garment. Our full-time stain removal specialists are very well versed in stain and fabric types. They have a large variety of chemistry, and the proper equipment and techniques to do the most effective job.

It is very important to keep in mind that an inexperienced dry cleaner or your own attempts may worsen the situation. The stain may spread, be pushed deeper into fabric fibers, or become a different, more resistant type of stain. On the other hand, the stain may come out but leave a discolored or weakened spot on the garment.

Still, for those of you who would like to try self-help, here is a website that may be of interest: Oregon Dry Cleaners Association. (Hakuyosha does not endorse or dispute the information provided). Please care for your health and safety when self-treating stains. Good luck! back to top of page
